Critique#1

This photo taken in London, England by Alex Saberi is very interesting to me. This photo was taken during the rut which is when deer move around most because of the mating season. The title of the image is “Realm of the Deer”. In the photo “Realm of the Deer”, Alex Saberi strongly focuses on the point of emphasis, and harmony to represent a feeling of dominance and strength.
The point of emphasis in this photo is the four large bucks walking right towards the photographer. This is the point of emphasis because the entire image focuses on the size and power of thee deer. The photo also emphasizes the size of the antlers on the deer which looks like a huge crown on its head and the bigger the crown the stronger and more dominant the deer. The photo also shows the muscles on the deer’s body which emphasizes the point of strength and power. The deer in the front seems to be leading the charge towards the females and he appears to be the most dominant because he holds his head higher than all of the other deer it seems as though he is saying “I am the boss so you should respect me.” The point of emphasis in this photo clearly illustrates the feeling of dominance and strength.
The way all of the deer’s surroundings go together gives it a feeling of harmony. The harmony shows strength and dominance because of the way the surroundings fit in with the deer. All of the colors of fall give both the deer and nature strength and dominance. The way some of the branches are bent with the weight of the leaves almost makes it seem as if the trees are respecting the strength and dominance of the deer. The harmony in the way the deer appear to be walking also shows a feeling of dominance to all surrounding animals. The strength of the deer and of nature all go together , especially in the way the background has the morning dusk coming up and portraying a felling of power.
In this photo the point of emphasis and harmony strongly represent a feeling of power and strength. This photo shows the strength that nature has and how it can be shown through animals. The photographer Alex Saberi shows an appreciation for the strength of nature through the deer and its surroundings. In my opinion nature will always represent a feeling of dominance and strength.

  1. I like how you used the strength and power of the deer to emphasize the background that you had given, I think it would be a good point in saying how the point of view from the camera effects how you see the deer. It relates to what you are saying because of how it views the deer as being bigger and stronger as the camera is down at ground level.

  2. I like what you said about the way the deer appear to be walking slow which shows a feeling of dominance among the animals.

  3. I like how you were very detailed and talked about the way the branches bend and the leaves sit and how you related it all back to the strength of the deer.
